Henderson Forsythe's daytime career began in 1958 when he appeared on The Edge of Night as Martin Sprode. In 1960, Forsythe was cast as David Stewart on As the World Turns, a part he played until 1990. Forsythe continued to act after leaving ATWT and his last acting credit was in a 1999 episode of Law & Order.

Forsythe was married to Dorothea Maria Carlson (1942-2006; his death). They had two children: Eric and Jason.

- Forsythe won a Tony Award in 1979 for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
